Why Lime?

It is a time-tested and ancient material used in medicine, agriculture, cosmetics and of course – plasters and finishes.  The first traces of lime use were dated back to 4,000 B.C., which is the datation made on kilns for the calcinations of limestone used by the Assirians in Mesopotamia.

Evidence of the use of lime-based products are found with a variety of ancient cultures:  Egyptians, Greeks, Phoenicians, Etrurians and others were able to use this precious material, developing a primitive method of extraction through the calcinations of limestone.

The “quicklime” was collected in pits and then slaked by pouring water over it, then kept in the pits for years, covered with water and sand.  This process ensured a natural purification process.

Although the technologies of today have shortened the process, the production cycle still respects the traditional method – obtained by calcination at high temperatures in modern kilns.

More on the advantages to the use of lime next month; we expect to offer the products online in the next few weeks.  Until then, if you want more information on these products, please call us at 1-800-797-4305.
