A weekend visit to Kathy Carroll’s studio by Melanie Royals (Royal Design Studio) and Rick Fischer (Deco Illusions) resulted in some incredible finishes using Modellos, the Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes’ own Bella Fresco, as well as Perfetto, Blue Pearl and  Briste Group products. 

Melanie’s involvement with Modello Designs offers an exciting new approach to the creation and application of pattern and design for interior and exterior environments.

Modellos are one-time-use decorative masking patterns, custom-sized and cut to order from your choice of adhesive materials. The adhesive quality of the material opens up a whole new world of application techniques, including the ability to work with the design in a positive or negative manner. When combined with decorative painting, gilding, etching, and textural mediums, the artistic possibilities are unlimited.

On Saturday morning, the duo viewed Kathy’s sample boards, and then they went to work, with Kathy providing background information for Bella Fresco, Perfetto, Blue Pearl and Briste Group products. 

Kathy enjoyed watching and helping Melanie and Rick work their samples, while serving as a resource to answer other product-related questions. 

The Modellos, in combination with the variety of products used created some remarkable results.  After a fun dinner on Saturday night, Melanie, Rick and Kathy went back to work on Sunday morning…with beautiful finishes and incredible textures created non-stop.
