Arlene Gallitto of Cleveland, Ohio delves into an exploration of cabinetry and fine furniture finishing techniques to begin with in her private class here at Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes. “I am working on cabinetry and fine furniture finishes expanding my repertoire of offerings to my customer’s. Tile embellishment is another new finish that I am going to be able to  offer my clients. As a returning artisan to Kathy Carroll’s private classes Arlene finds there are substantial benefits. “Keeping abreast with new product lines and staying involved with new industry and cutting edge techniques, Kathy has new ideas and artistic information to share with her students.”

The beauty of the private classes is the one-on-one instruction. This environment is perfect to soak up all the individual attention little tips that Kathy is known to give that proves invaluable out on work sites. With the private instruction Arlene says, “I have definitely added to my skills and techniques. This is always inspiring and uplifting.  Working in the studio there are other artisans, which results in an increase in sharing.  In Kathy’s class I have been working with new colors and techniques, design trends as well as sharing ideas. Kathy is very helpful in sharing information and knowledge.  She is always wonderful to work with.”

These latest designs, color palette, and patterns are right on target for today’s market place. I am very excited about returning home and showing my Interior Designers what is new and in the colors that are so popular.

The Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes is continuously striving to be the best and they have proven it time and time again just how on target they can be.

One of Kathy’s mantra’s is “If you don’t invest in yourself then who will invest in you?”  Do what you need to do  to get yourself involved with the Chicago Institute and update your portfolio you won’t be sorry.

Beginning the week of July 24th, Sharon (Tag) Taglienti of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts came to Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes for a week long private class.  As a former Chicago resident 3 1/2 years ago, Tag regularly went to Kathy Carroll's studio, at least once or twice a week in addition to taking many formal classes.  Being a veteran of
Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes, Tag has some insightful words for her fellow artisans; "the difference between private classes and the formals ones is that you can go through Kathy's sample library and chose exactly what you want to learn to market to your own particular customer base.  With private classes you have one on one attention allowing for a maximizing of your school time."

This week, Tag has  commented on an array of new product and techniques she has learned.  "I have been working with the new products Kathy has brought back from IDAL. One new technique is the crocodile roller which is fabulous in terms of time savings over the stencil method used before.  We have been introduced to a new line of Kathy's contemporary stencils that are dead-on for our present market along with color forecasting. We have been able to create some wonderful new variations of samples; everyone seems get inspired off of each other's creativity. We can't wait to get back to our clients and designers to share with them our new, dramatic samples!

Tag says the structure of the week long class has been tremendously beneficial.  Arriving with her business partner Holly Henkel, they spent the first three days working privately with Kathy. Now there are a few other artisans working in the studio on their own projects. She and Holly enjoy having others in the studio because of the
sharing of ideas and solutions.

Tag has many wonderful things to say about the class and techniques she is learning.  When asked about Kathy Carroll, this is what she had
to say "Out of all the learning experiences I have had in the last 12 years, Kathy is the most dedicated and customer service oriented person I have dealt with.  She has always gone well over the extra mile, becoming much more than an instructor.  She has become a friend who honestly cares more about me and my learning experience even more than she does her own bottom line."

To enroll in a private class, please call 630.653.2400 inside IL or 800.797.4305 outside IL.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Holly Henkel Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes
Holly Henkel

Holly Henkel from Shrewsbury Massachusetts is enjoying a week long private class along with her business partner at the Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes.  Diving right into the techniques and new trends, Holly has been learning many new and exciting things. "We are learning a lot of different techniques and are using fabulous new and contemporary stencils which are similar to the designer fabrics which are so popular now. The colors we are using in our samples this week are perfect for what the present market is demanding. We are also working on exciting techniques to apply appliqués on cabinetry, tiles and glass. Kathy is quite an innovator; she's definitely cutting edge!

Holly was in business for 8 years prior to the business she and her partner, Sharon Taglienti, started four years ago.  Kathy stresses the importance of learning and staying current.  "There is always something new to learn."  In the private classes, there  is the benefit of one on one sessions. "Kathy is an excellent teacher.  Even when you are doing a technique, she will walk you through other options using different colors or layering other products giving you other possibilities to change it up. She gives you a basic recipes and then gives you options. She never teaches just one thing; Kathy has a wealth of knowledge about the products characteristics; she always knows what will work or not work." Utilizing Kathy's expertise out on a job site takes the guess work out of unfamiliar or new products. "You can count on eliminating many learning mistakes with
information Kathy provides. I am glad I was here!
