A Haven of Headboards

As seen on HGTV’s homepage, headboards do not need to be your run of the mill standard headboard.  What is it that your client is looking to achieve?  What are the colors that bring them comfort?  Make the bedroom a haven and turn it into a true work of art.

As a focal point, headboards add beauty and character to a bedroom.  Headboards can set the tone for the rest of the décor to follow.

There are many artistic avenues to explore.  For an island retreat with a bedroom lending to high ceilings, attach Grecian columns extending up to connect to a stunning arch.  Accentuate the columns and arch by adding a flowing fabric in deep blues and patterns adherent to the era cascading down from the arch.  Stencil along the arch, giving the focal point to the room the perfect touch.  For a different look, plaster a raised section behind the bed and fresco a beautiful mural.  Stencils can be used in a vast array of techniques.  Stencil a sports motif or turn a plain padded headboard into a tranquil work of art in a glistening array of color.

Here are a few ideas to build off of for unique headboards:

  • Hand carved screens
  • Blinds
  • Cleverly painted or stenciled pallets, shutters or a fence
  • Trellis
  • Book shelf or shelf with wood stain, decorative paint, stencils or color wash
  • Rustic barn door
  • Old windows or stain glass windows
  • Hand carved screen

Decorative painting and stencils allows artisans to turn an ordinary piece of furniture or wall behind a bed into something extraordinary.  A touch of elegance, a whimsical design, color washing, tone-on-tone, faux finish, decorative painting, anything is possible to achieve the creative focal masterpiece that makes the bedroom come alive.  Most people only sleep in their rooms; turn your client’s room into a retreat beginning with their headboard.

Fauxology

Fauxology for the Senses

Regina GarayWhen you live your life in inspiration, color and creativity it tends to expand, spill out and shout out in every available outlet possible.  Who falls prey to the backlash?  Family, of course!  Regina Garay’s family decided they had had enough and wanted to spend time with her without hearing incessantly about decorative painting, decorative painting, and decorative painting!  The fallout of this was in intervention…..

“My family had enough and said you are going to have to figure out a way to talk about that somewhere else.”  From that point Regina began her blog www.Fauxology.com and became an avid blogger.  “That is how it started.  It was me finding an outlet to share my love.  Now it is crazy because it has taken on a life of its own, it’s incredible how it has grown.”  Regina went from blogging from once a week or so from when she began the blog in June of 2007 to blogging daily for almost a year now.  Her blog contains an array of decorative appetizers to wet the palate from stories of romance where a man creates a “whimsical sand mural proposal” to ask his fiancée for her hand in marriage, to museums, architecture, ornamental ceilings, to name but a few.  In addition, it is a resource for decorative painters just by clicking on categories that deal with the information such as Finishes & Techniques or anything that you may be looking for.  The words Regina writes are playfully interwoven with romance and beauty combined with the sensory richness and depth of the pictures for a powerful assault on the senses.

While Regina has two other bloggers, Dana Tucker and her sister Suzanne Rosales, who contribute a post or two a month, Regina contributes the majority of the content.  Her favorite aspects of the blog are showcasing the work of other artists and helping people with the social media and blogging.  “To me it is sharing with the readers who come to the blog or email me.  I enjoy helping them as I am familiar with the social sites.  Helping people with decorative painting info, social media and blogging you meet a lot of kindred spirits.”  Going forward, Regina plans to keep up with her daily posts.  We look forward to each and every new post out there!

Our Clients Speak

Thanks again Kathy and the team at CIFF!

Hi Kathy,

I just thought I would send you a pic of my first foil job.  It was little but my client and her husband love it and I have to admit it turned out beautiful.  It was a rough first 15 minutes but I learned it really had to mess this up.  Now because of this my client has asked me to help her with the rest of her condo :-)

Thank you and Peggy for always being there
