Spray Gun Shoot Off

Anest Iwata Spray Gun Sales Manager, Jim Brooks to speak at IDAL Chapter meeting in Carol Stream Illinois

Spray guns were slung over shoulders and excitement was in the air this November for the Heartland IDAL Chapter meeting in Carol Stream, Illinois. When Kathy Carroll invited Anest Iwata Equipment Industrial OEM Sales Manager, Jim Brooks to speak at their Chapter meeting. A riveting discussion turned into a spray gun challenge.

Anest Iwata is a Japanese manufacturer of coating systems. Kathy met Jim at the 2013 IDAL Convention and Exposition in Indianapolis. From 9:30 to approximately 4:00, Jim regaled the Chapter group with facts and multiple tempting new toys. He brought with him the LHP400-LV Gravity, Air Gunsa Spray Guns, LPH80, and Glazing Gun.

The LPH80 comes in two types of spray guns. Jim explains, “One is a small compact HVLP touch up gun and one is a glazing gun. The LPH400 Gravity Set Gun is a general-purpose spray gun that you can use to apply stains, sealers, and topcoats. The AIR Gunsa Spray Guns are used as primer guns. They are mid-priced guns, ideal for primers. The other system is an air assisted airless pump, designed as an all around spray system that can spray stains, sealers, and topcoats, designed for higher volumes of material, great for large jobs. You can keep spraying until you’re done with the job.”

A riveting discussion broke out, with Jim at the lead. Pros and cons formed between air compressors and turbine spray guns. With overspray levels rated upward of 65 – 75% with the conventional air spray guns suffering from poor transfer efficiency, the odds stacked. High pressure, resulting in overspray and bounce back, translates to loss of material and money.

The HVLP spray guns bridge the gap between both worlds. With improved transfer efficiency, high finish quality, EPA and Government approval, its one of the most sought after spray guns. With the push process turned down to about half the velocity of the older air compressors, there are few disadvantages. All in all, the HVLP spray guns are an excellent choice.

That brings us to the turbine, where the odds are looking mighty good. They handle almost all viscosities. From very fine finishes to larger outdoor areas, the turbine is your spray gun of choice. Now this was Jim’s highlighting moment, and Kathy explains the impact he had on the Heartland Chapter. “He explained the differences between the turbine and air compression system. We learned about spraying material for cabinetry. The meeting was so powerful that nine people purchased guns after the meeting. The glazing gun is what people went crazy over. You can glaze and shadow with the gun instead of by hand. It’s wonderful. It saves a lot of time and money to get that done.”

With over seventy-five years of experience, Anest Iwata Spray Guns are simply among the best. Following the meeting, Kathy said, “Jim made it very easy and we changed our spray system from an air to turbine. We love the results we’re getting from it.”

As the chapter members pitted their spray guns against Anest Iwata’s, testing and observing the differences first hand, eyes opened and thoughts formulated. Increased profit margins, time management, the ease of accessing small spaces with perfection spread out before them.

Since the chapter meeting, Jim has been to the Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes where he and Kathy tested numerous products in Anest Iwata Spray Guns finding the correct mixtures. Below, Jim took the time to answered several questions.

Can you tell me about one of the products tested?

“We tested Aqualente primer. We have the correct mixture so that it lays out smooth as glass and fills the grain in the wood extremely well.”

Do spray guns save time and money?

“Yes, they do. All of the spray guns transfer 65% efficiency. That means that 65% out of a quart will go on parts and pieces minimum. When you get air assisted that is in the high 80% transfer range. That will spray parts and pieces with an excellent finish.”

Are you able to use a spray gun with stencils?

“Yes. The LPH80 is small and lightweight. It doesn’t over apply the material so the edges will not be thick and rough.”

Jim says spray guns “speed things up and help you get productive much quicker.” There are so many possibilities, so many avenues opened up, stenciling is just one of them. Save time and money, rendering a truly beautiful finished product with Anest Iwata Spray Guns. We are excited with the results we have seen and are creating today. We have tested many products and have the correct mixtures for them. Make sure to ask us about Glass Beads, or any others you work with. Call with any questions, or stop in and for a hands-on demonstration.

Faux by Kathy Decorative Arts store and shipping

Chicago Institute of Fine Finishes and Faux by Kathy are dedicated to their customers. That’s why the shipping rates have remained the same for two and a half years. No matter what, the clients always win.

When asked about the shipping policy, Kathy said:

“We have a calculated dollar amount of freight that’s charged and posted on the website. It is not by weight. When you ship it is by weight. If someone buys something and it’s higher in dollar value, like $300, and it only weighs four or five pounds, we will always charge the lower amount in shipping. If the shipping exceeds the amount on the chart we do not go back and ask for more money. Either way, the artisan comes out on top.

When an order is placed, we strive to ship it out that same business day. We let them know instantly if we are short on something. Our goal is to keep them on schedule, not hold them up.”

Formerly in the field herself, Kathy knows how important it is to receive the product on time. Worrying about shipping costs is not what she wants her business to revolve around come time to ship. It’s about quality, customer service, and reliability. Time and again, she delivers.
